Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

When she was growing up, Dr. Sudhoff would see her mother (a dental hygienist for 35 years) running into her patients wherever they went constantly, to the point that it was a running joke in her family. Although they teased her about it, she thought it was neat that the patients always wanted to stop and catch up with her mom, and it was her first sign that dentistry offered a unique opportunity to become a part of someone’s life in a way that has been lost in most healthcare fields.

Dr. Sudhoff ultimately decided to join the field of dentistry herself during her senior year at Glastonbury High School. During this time, she designed and conducted a research project about the link between heart disease and periodontal disease. As part of this, she spent time in both a cardiology office and a periodontology office. In the cardiology office, it seemed like patients were constantly receiving life-altering diagnoses that had no real cure. In the periodontology office, by comparison, patients were seen on an ongoing basis, acute issues were resolved, and the relationships were much more friendly. She was very drawn to this dynamic, and the rest was history.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Sudhoff studied at the University of Connecticut for both her undergraduate degree and dental doctorate. She went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital and then spent several years working at a high-end cosmetic dental office. She has multiple years of experience in sleep dentistry and has completed countless hours of continuing education. While she practices the majority of aspects of dentistry, she enjoys addressing sleep cases and performing aesthetic procedures the most.

Dr. Sudhoff is currently a member of her location SPEAR study group, as well as the American Dental Association, Connecticut Dental Association, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

As a native of Glastonbury, Dr. Sudhoff loves to spend time with her husband Adam, two children (daughter Riley and stepson Joseph), and their three fun dogs (Lucy, Bernie, and Teddy) whenever she isn’t at the office. She also likes to go hiking with her pets, read a good book, travel, garden, and regularly visit the beach. Whenever she has a large amount of free time on her hands, she has a passion for refinishing/redesigning furniture as well.
