Friendly Glastonbury Dentist
Get to Know Matthew P. Scoles DMD
A proud Glastonbury native, Dr. Matt always loves seeing a patient’s face light up after he has taken care of them. Whether he has enhanced their smile or gotten them out of pain, being able to boost people’s confidence as well as their health is consistently rewarding, and he can’t imagine doing anything else.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Matt always knew he wanted to go into healthcare but he wasn’t sure if he should pursue medicine or dentistry. He took a year off after college to decide, but he quickly realized dentistry was better for him because he loves to work with his hands. Plus, he would have more control of his future, and he could be home more with his future family (like his father was for him growing up) while still dedicating his career to helping people.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Matt’s educational career started with the completion of his Bachelor of Science from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Before starting dental school, he worked as a research assistant for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement in Military Medicine in Rockville, VA, where he evaluated clinical trials for possible HIV vaccines. Then, he attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Matt then did his General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital, where he developed a particular interest in becoming a dentist who sees the big picture and knows how everything works together when it comes to oral and overall health. He also went on to teach in the program for 12 years. Dr. Matt has completed advanced training with SPEAR Education and is certified in Invisalign and has taken many advanced courses to provide CEREC same-day crowns. He is currently a member of the following dental organizations:
- American Dental Association
- Connecticut State Dental Association
- Academy of General Dentistry (Fellowship status)
- Hartford Dental Society
- SPEAR Faculty Club
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Matt and his wife, Sara (who is a dentist in South Windsor), have two daughters named Emilia and Molly. When he isn’t busy at work, being with his family consumes most of his free time. His many hobbies include playing golf, growing vegetables in his garden, trying new recipes in the kitchen, and cheering on the Yankees. He’s also very passionate about SCUBA diving and even has a saltwater reef tank at his house with fish and coral! As if that wasn’t enough, his latest goal is to become fluent in Italian.
